I drive an 11 year old Mustang. I love the car, but this summer I’ll be getting a new one. And the reason is that everything is broken on my 2014 Mustang.
The plastic interior is breaking off, one piece at a time. The gas gauge broke, the turn singals no longer make any sound, and if you leave the lights on, there’s no longer a warning sound that plays. The fake leather patches on the door came off in the Florida heat after about 9 years.
But I had work done on the engine and it still runs, and knock on wood, the AC still works. But the other day, the car stereo died. My commute to work is almost an hour. Each way. This SUCKS!
I don’t want to put any more money into it because I want a new car this summer. And when I say new, I of course mean used, probably a two or three year old Mustang with less than 32 thousand miles on it.
The car stereo is a big deal, because I’m trying to mix songs for my new album. Testing songs in my car is something I’ve always done, since my first album back in 2004. The car tells you a lot about your mix. Right now my car tells me nothing.
Why blog about it? I have no clue. What car will I get? Another Mustang. Why, you ask? Why, when my current 11 year old Mustang is falling apart? The answer is simple – it’s my favorite car that I’ve ever owned. It’s fun to drive and when it was all working, I loved it. I wouldn’t love a Civic or a Rav 4 or whatever. I love Mustangs. That’s just how it is.
So I’ll have to listen to my mix on my wife’s car stereo to get the “car” perspective. There’s no other way.
