Back in the late 90s and early 00s, I was a shareware developer. I ran Cool Classroom Software, and put out education shareware titles Secret Agent, Test Pilot Typer, Mr. Fixitup, and Lester McMultiply. I was teaching 5th grade at the time, so it was really just a hobby. I made enough money to buy bedroom furniture for one of my kids. It was $20 for a copy, or $100 for a schoolwide site license. Ah, those were the days. I had an AOL account just to sell shareware.
But the bottom fell out of the shareware market, and I got out. Like I said, it was a hobby, so it wasn’t a big deal for me. Some other programmers weren’t so lucky, but that’s business, as they say.
This has nothing to do with keyboards, but it is my blog, and I’ll get off topic sometimes.
Anyway, there’s a new book out that I want to get called Shareware Heroes. You can read a chapter of it free online, at:

I don’t get any commission or anything. I just think that some folks might be interested. The sample chapter is great.
